————— Percy's POV: —————

I fixed my hair quickly, still unsure if this dress was the one to wear to the dance.

Months ago Annabeth had invited Grover and I to her school's homecoming, after some paper signing we managed to get approved and thus I needed to get ready.

My dress was something simple, since they had a theme at her school that wasn't just white glove like at my school I was currently dressing to the standard of Alice in wonderland which was definitely a bit daunting.

The three of us had made arrangements where Annabeth would be Alice, Grover would be the rabbit, and I would be queen of hearts, how I got stuck with her I wasn't too sure. I think it started when Grover pointed out we both had black hair and from there hints became a bit too much in the gc for me to properly navigate. Grover was going to pick me up on the way. The two of us were supposed to fly on one of the pegasi so I had to hope he had a plan to make it so that Alfred and the others would definitely see a car and not some huge razor scooter or shopping cart or something.

I looked at myself in the mirror, my hair was up in a bun excluding my bangs. Half the bun was covered from the front by a small golden crown attached to a headband. Looking down I found the dress that was troubling me. It was a short dark red dress that when in the light revealed the red but in darker situations looked black. It had strings for sleeves and paired questioningly with my blue hair and somehow my black heel shoes. I had on golden earrings and a black choker with roses on it and still I couldn't tell if I liked it or not.

I sighed as I took a step back, Grover's "I'm near" message shone bright on my phone's screen.

Then a knock came at the door. "Percy?" I felt relief at Damian's voice. I turned quickly.

"Come in." He waited a moment longer before the door cracked open and he peeked his head in. His eyes met mine and immediately a small smile came onto his lips. I couldn't help but smile back at him, watching as he entered slowly.

He walked over to me and grabbed my hand carefully. "You look lovely, I really see the queen of hearts in the inspiration." I smiled.

"Thanks, but you don't think the dress is too much?" I asked, he looked down, examining my dress for a moment before shaking his head.

"Not in the slightest." I smiled.

"You're too sweet you know." He rolled his eyes.

"I've literally only ever heard that from you." He said though I could tell it meant a lot to him.

I smiled as I grabbed his other hand. "Doesn't make it any less true." I carefully leaned in and placed a kiss on his cheek.

He smiled softly at me. I noted a while back that Damian's biggest smiles tended to be softer, more small than most, in fact it was his big smiles that I found to be the most fake and practiced. I loved when he gave me his gentle smiles.

I heard my phone vibrated my head turning to see my phone.

"Oh, give me a second, it could be Grover." I released Damian's hands and picked up my phone. Sure enough it was Grover's contact. "He's here." I said, turning to Damian. Damian nodded.

"I'll walk you out," he said, extending his hand for me. I smiled as I put my phone in my handbag before grabbing his hand with my freehand.

"Thanks Dami."

"Of course Percy." He smiled warmly but just as we were about to leave he pulled me back, setting a gentle hand on my side, a tingly feeling running up my back as he watched me earnestly. "And...if the whole queen of hearts things doesn't work out... you could always be the queen of my heart." The both of us stood in silence for a bit, with me watching Damian's face turning progressively more pink. I couldn't help but feel any worry I had flow away as I felt my shoulders shake in a silent laugh. Damian shut his eyes as his face began to enter red territory.
